My name is Gerry Whelan, I have been in the Auto body trade for 21 years.

I am from Dublin, Ireland but living in Vancouver, Canada the past 7 years. I started my apprenticeship in Dublin in 1999 and since then I have received a lot of training on luxury cars, Mercedes Benz, BMW & Aston Martin to name a few.

I created this website with the intention to pass my knowledge on to others who want to excel in their auto body career . I have 45K+ followers on Instagram, a Facebook page, and I just created my new Youtube channel. My aim is to post as many tutorial videos and share the repair process along the way plus answer any questions my followers may have.

There is nothing I love more then to give my followers my honest tool reviews on tools that I use all of the time and any new tools that I try.

Mercedes Benz GT

This was a massive job, hard hit front end Mercedes Benz GT. I replaced the whole front end aluminium clip on this Luxury car.

This repair needed a lot of aluminium welding. I attended training for Mercedes aluminium welding a few times, the most important lesson is to have all weld surfaces CLEAN, CLEAN,CLEAN! You don’t want aluminium oxide and hydrocarbon contamination and also never use the tools you would usually use for steel on aluminium.

Before I started this repair, I practiced my welds to ensure my welder settings where perfect to produce clean, strong welds.

In todays car repairs, especially panel replacement there are so many different ways of carrying out the repair. Every car company has their own way of carrying out these repair procedures so ALWAYS make sure you follow the procedure guidelines. For example some car manufactures want you to spot weld the panel back on and mig weld the joints while others want you to glue and rivet the panels on and some require a mixture of everything.
